36 Palm Seed Assorment: 12 seeds each of Arikury Palm, Bottle Palm and Arenga Hookeriana. All seeds are fresh, cleaned and ready to plant. Arikury Palm (Syagrus schizophylla): Photos 6, 7, 8, 9 above.
The Arikury Palm is a beautiful, small to medium sized palm tree normally growing to 8-12' in height with a short, slender trunk making it perfect for smaller properties as it won't overpower your yard or house. They form a small, dense, upright crown of glossy green feathery leaves with stiff, very leathery segments making the Arikury Palm stand out from other palms. The leaf trunks can be trimmed long to produce a very ornate trunk, making a perfect place to plant orchids and ferns for a truly unique look or stripped bare for a very formal look.
Native to Brazil, Arikury palms are fairly fast growing with 1-2' annually being the norm here in South Florida. They've a very forgiving palm tree equally at home in full sun as they are in partial shade. They tolerate a wide range of soil conditions from arid sandy soil to moist/rich and are generally very easy to grow, robust, trouble-free additions to your landscape.
Also referred to as the "miniature coconut" as the leaves bear resemblance to the Coconut palm, and their stiff petals create a soothing rattling noise when the wind is right. Bottle Palms are shorter palms generally reaching a height of 12' with their standout feature being their incredibly rotund, swollen trunk which is a smooth grayish color resembling concrete. They form a tight leaf crown of just a handful of thick, heavy leaves and are self-cleaning palms so no trimming is required. Bottle palms will grow best in filtered light but will be equally happy in full sun if given ample water. They respond well to regular application of a slow-release palm fertilizer that is high in potassium. Arenga Hookeriana: Photos 3, 4, 5 above.
Easily one of our favorites palms, these are very unique palms and something you don't see in every collection. This is a clustering palm, normally forming a dense group of palms up to about 6' tall and 6' wide. Trunks are normally not visible as they are covered up by the unique, large leaves. These are understory palms which will excel in a moist, shady location away from high winds. As with most palms, they respond well to a thick layer of mulch and a good quality slow-release palm fertilizer.
