Description
An exotic Aesthetic Movement kerosene lamp with and frosted and etched glass fuel reservoir from circa 1880. It can still be used today.
A heavy cast iron metal base is attached to a glass cylinder that is decorated with palm trees, camel and Bedouin figures. The reservoir above this cylinder is a frosted etched glass. The glass parts are mounted in brass with a brass fixture at the top to hold its wick. There are four prongs which hold the glass chimney in place. There is a knob at the top for increasing the light or decreasing the light.
MEASUREMENTS
21 ½” (54.6 cm) tall with chimney
14 ½” (36.8 cm) to top of burner
Base – 4 ¾” (12.1 cm) square
Tank diameter - 6” (14.2 cm)
Weighs 3 lbs 13.4 oz (1710 g)
CONDITION
The decorative design has no damages on the front. There is a flaw on the back where the is a gap in the surface layer (see photo with circled area). This gap is edged with gilding and so most likely from manufacture. The metal base has some paint losses along the corners and rust under the base. The brass has darkened from age and there are a few dark spot. There is a small dent on the reservoir brass top. Both the burner and the chimney are in excellent condition.
