The Antique Sheaffer's Skrip Clear Glass Ink Bottle with Pocket and Lid is in Great Condition.
Note: Lid shows wear (please see pics). This is an antique Sheaffer Skrip ink bottle embossed "This side down - Fill Pocket" on the side and "Sheaffer's Skrip Pat'd 19569866" on bottom. Sheaffer started making the Skrip line of ink in 1922 in Fort Madison, Iowa at the Owens-Illinois Glass Co. They continued to produce the popular line until 1990.
The Patented for the Skrip bottle describes the invention as a "bottle and well in which the well is shaped and proportioned, and so positioned within the bottle that is especially adapted to serve as an ink well into which a pen may be dipped. The well being small and narrow so that a small amount of ink will fill it to a depth sufficient to submerge the entire point portion of the average pen when the pen 1s inserted therein and the upper edge of the well being positioned and arranged so as to serve as a stop against which the end of the pen holder may strike to prevent the pen from being dipped too deep and to prevent the point of the pen from striking the bottom of the well and to prevent the end of the pen holder from dipping into the ink. Another object is to provide combined bottle and well in which the well is quickly and easily filled by applying the cap or cork and tilting or inverting the bottle.
