He did not want to engage in the cattle business as it was such hard work so while out there, he came across rattlesnakes and got the idea that the oil from these venomous creatures must surely be able to cure all types of human afflictions. Originally from the east coast, he went back to Providence, Rhode Island, where he started his "Clark Stanley's Snake Oil Liniment" business. He manufactured and sold this concoction in hand blown bottles with his name on them, as you see here for sale. The label on this one shows a picture of Clark Stanley with a 5 - gallon cowboy hat on, a large handle-bar mustache, and surrounded by 2 rattlesnakes! He originally mixed and advertised this concoction for people but realized he could get a greater share of the market if he widened out his target audience and started advertising it as a Man or Beast medicine, the "Best Horse Liniment in the World" he claimed. And there you have it, the birth of the ORIGINAL and TRUE 'Snake Oil' liniment. NOTE: The paper label on this bottle is a facsimile, a copy of the real label that originally came on this bottle . Since th ere are few of these bottles that survived the elements of time with their label intact, and since there are so many collectors that would like to have one with the label, we made a copy of the label that originally came on this bottle. Note that the label pictures Clark Stanley bordered by two rattlesnakes, check it out! Terms of Sale : Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction.
