This is a vintage St Joseph's medicine bottle embossed "The Name St Joseph's Assures Purity". The early, cork-topped bottle likely dates to the early 1900s. The seam goes to the top of the lip making it machine produced, so best guess on narrowing a date would be 1920s-1930s.  There is an illegible mark on the bottom, possibly an Owens glass mark. The antique drugstore bottle likely contained St. Joe's Cough syrup.  My father, an avid bottle digger, discovered the bottle in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia over 40 years ago. The bottle is in nice condition, free of breaks or cracks. Clarity is very nice for a dug bottle. The bottle measures about 5.5" x 1.75" x .5". St. Joseph was founded in 1887 by a Bavarian immigrant, Leopold Gerstle in a small drug store in Bluff City, Tennessee. Originally called the Gerstle Medicine Co., it was renamed the St. Joseph Medicine Company after St Joseph, Missouri and Saint Joseph, the patron saint of families, children and the sick. The company has been making aspirin and other medicinal products such as cough syrup for 125 years.
