Hyophorbe lagenicaulis Bottle Palm Tropical Arecaceae The Bottle Palm is native to the Mauritius Islands and endemic to Round Island. It naturally occupies sandy soils of upland forests and coastal savannas.  This unique and interesting bulbous palm has a single trunk that will grow slowly up to 10-20 ft tall, about 2 ft in diameter with ring scars and a green crownshaft at the top. The gray, self-cleaning trunk has a distinguished bottle shape, hence the name Bottle Palm. The Bottle Palm produces stunning white flowers that develop into ornamental black seeds when ripe.  Hyophorbe lagenicaulis prospers in full sunlight if given enough water and is also an outstanding indoor/outdoor container specimen. It tolerates and looks its best in moderate shade and filtered light.
