Charles Mason was Responsible for the Very Sought-After and Highly Valued "COLORED PONTILED "PATENT" HAIR-MEDICINE BOTTLE" that is Rectangular and Embossed w/ C.A.P. MASON'S / ALPINE HAIR / BALM / PROVIDENCE R.I." It Seems that this Letter is actually Hand-Written, Personally by Charles Mason, Druggist, Himself. Evidently, from The "Contents" of This Letter, it appears that Mason was Very Centered on His "Ink-Dyes" that He was Making for the Use of Printing, at least at the time of the writing of this Correspondence in 1875.

***** MASON'S ALPINE HAIR BALM (History as found in "Hair Raising Stories" by Donald Fadely ~ Thanks for a Wonderful and Extremely Helpful Antique Medicine Bottle Historical Information / Reference Site*****C harles A.P. Mason was an Apothecary in Providence, Rhode Island. He was listed in 1857 without an occupation, at 45 N. Main. Starting in 1852- 3, his business was at 167 Broad with Charles A.W. Snow (Snow & Mason). They expanded in 1854, adding a shop at 136 Broad. From 1859 to 1861, they mentioned Snow & Mason's Croup Syrup and Mason's Alpine Hair Balm as two of their products. From 1862 on, the directories didn't mention the products, so I'm not sure how long the Alpine Hair Balm was produced. One of the labels I've seen for this product said there was also an Alpine Hair Dresser, but I have not seen this bottle. In 1866, Mason was listed with Edward R. Dawley and B.S. Buker (Mason, Dawley, and Buker). Their address was at 40 Weybosset. Buker was replaced by Nathaniel Wheaton in 1870; their business was Drugs and Dyes at 87 Dyer. William R. Talbot was added in 1873, and the firm was called: Mason, Dawley, Wheaton & Co. For his last few years, Mason was again listed alone. In 1875, he was at 19 Exchange, and from 76 to 87 he was at 613 High Street. The last year he was listed was 1888, and he was listed with a home address only
