I listed the open as used however, they are actually New Old Stock, never used, with that said, they are not perfect by any means, but functional, and very cool collectibles or to display in your vintage V.W. The small wrappers they were in had deteriorated long before I found them stored in the upstairs of the old dealership building. from tye old V.W. These are from Rome Automobile Co. located in Rome , Ga. and operated as a Volkswagen dealership, (and other makes but Volkswagen was the longest resident dealership), from 1958 until they became a bought a Honda franchise in the early 1980’s, if I remember right. I worked at the Nissan Dealership owned by the same folks, in the parts department and was sent across the street to the old building as it was called, tasked with cleaning out the entire upstairs of the parts dept. which included NOS Volkswagen parts, and a few Pontiac parts (it was built as a Pontiac GMC truck dealership in late 1948, until it too moved to a new facility. This was in 1989/90, and everything is long gone. I’ve been cleaning out desks, cabinets in my building and found several (seventeen to be exact), of these openers I had forgotten about. My dad and I had see to do the swap meet thing in the 1990’s and out of a few hundred, my dad or myself, must have put these away in a filing cabinet. These were never given away or used at the dealership or by us, however, years I suppose, have aged them. These measures 6” from opener to the blue tip.
These have the blue tip, with the leather tassel still attached, and are overall in nice condition, the only thing I can fault a little, is the chrome opener part itself looks like a little of the chrome has deteriorated or come off in small spots, that said, they were not perfect even when they were new! Still, these are a cool piece to display with your vintage VW or those who collect such. Thanks you.
