Vintage 10oz Coca Cola Green Glass Coke Bottles Return Deposit Various Locations Thank You for considering these Vintage Ten Ounce Green Coke Bottles from Various Locations and dated from the years of 1966 through 1983. These bottles have dimensions of nine and three-quarter inches (9.75”) tall by two and one-eighth inches (2.14”) wide at the bottom with a weight of approx. Fourteen ounces (14oz). These are Georgia green “Mae West” or “Hobble Skirt” designed bottles. These bottles have wear consistent with their age and no chips or cracks at all. A Little History As impossible as it may seem today, Coca-Cola did not originally intend to sell its products in bottles. The first man to bottle Coca-Cola Mr. Joseph Biedenharn did so without the permission of the company—in 1894. Even though they were only about six inches (6.00”) tall, the first bottles, Hutchinson-stopper bottles were quite heavy and clunky. Unlike the more familiar vintage Coke bottles, Hutchinson bottles had straight sides without curves and embossed with the “Coca-Cola” name either in block text or script style. Each bottle also included the name of the city where the product was bottled. To open the bottle, one had to push the stopper down through the neck. When it opened, it popped—which is how the term “soda pop” entered the American vernacular. William Painter of Baltimore invented the crown-top bottle in 1891, but it did not become popular until about a decade later when Coke adopted crown tops, around 1902. A new era for Coca-Cola began on November 16, 1915, when Coke patented a brand-new bottle shape. Known as the “Mae West” or “hobble skirt” bottle for its resemblance to a fashionable dress of the period and inspired by the form of a cocoa pod, this bottle featured a bulging middle, parallel grooves, Georgia green color, and tapered ends.
